Cayden's Birth Story!
My due date was April 19th. On Wednesday, March 20th, I was dilated to a 2 and baby was posterior. Then on Wednesday, April 10th, I was dilated to a 4, baby was now anterior, and Dr. stretched some of my membranes. The contractions would get very strong at evening time, but would go away during the night and I'd be fine the next morning. On Friday, April 12th, we went to a ward activity (pine wood derby), had a good time, went to bed as normal....but at 3:37 am, I was lying restlessly in bed, when I felt a "pop". It seriously reminded me of a water balloon popping. I got out of my bed and the water started pouring out as I ran for the bathroom shouting Richard's name. Richard called my mom (she was coming in to stay with Kinzie) and Labor & Delivery while I quickly showered. After we finished packing the bags and I received a blessing, we headed to the hospital and arrived around 4:15ish. My contractions were strong and I was already dilated to a 5.
I've always been told I had good veins, but that was not the case this time. A nurse tried to insert my IV on my left arm 2 times, and both times failed. So she got another nurse who tried 2 times on my right arm and again failed. So they got an even more experienced nurse who finally got it in my left arm...that was miserable, especially since all while they were pricking me over and over again my contractions were getting worse and worse. It was so painful.
With Kinzie, I went from a 6 to a 10 very quickly, so they were prepared for that to happen again and called the Dr. right away. We were working through the contractions pretty well, but I gave in and asked for some relief. Instead of an epidural this time, I got the epidural shot thingy (can't remember exactly what it's called, but it works kinda like an epidural but the numbing only lasts for 2 hours, so you have to deliver in that time frame). It kicked in and life was heavenly after that! About 15 minutes later the nurses were frantically like "turn on your side, put on oxygen, turn to the other side, blah blah blah" as they kept readjusting my belly monitor and looking at the screen. They seemed panicked and were freaking me out, and when I asked what was wrong, a nurse said "I think baby's making his descent down for delivery". I was like "already? really?" Dr. checked me--I was at a 10! They called everyone in, got everything set up and ready to go, we pushed for maybe 10 minutes, and at 6:07 a.m. a precious miracle from Heaven entered this World.
Cayden Lee Curzon
Born: Saturday, April 13, 2013
7 lbs, 3 oz, 20.5 inches
He was a healthy little Bundle of Joy whom I immediately fell in love with!
As soon as he was born, they handed him to me--first mommy/baby bonding time! Then they took him to get cleaned up/weighed/etc, then brought him back to me. It took him a bit to stop crying and calm down and catch on to the nursing concept, but once he did, he mastered it like a Champ! He ate well that morning, but that afternoon he slept, and slept, and slept. When it was time for him to eat, we tried everything to wake him up, but to no avail. The nurse told us, "He ate well this morning, so just let him sleep". so we did. The next day, however, he did little sleeping and just ate, and ate, and ate. funny kid.
We had looked at Kinzie's newborn hospital pics the week before, and we thought Cayden looked just like Kinzie did. When others came to visit us in the hospital, most of them exclaimed, "he looks just like Kinzie did!" But after a few days, he started to develop his own look! (not sure if we got any good "comparison" pics--if I find some, I'll post them later.)
We brought Cayden home on Sunday afternoon at about 4:30ish!
This was taken right before we left the hospital! |
Now he is 2 1/2 weeks old and weighing

Richard bought him this outfit! He sure does love his little boy! |
Overall, everything went well! It was so nice to have Kinzie come visit us in the hospital--I sure did miss her lots and was so happy to see her when my mom brought her home Sunday night. I am very grateful for my healthy growing family!
